The Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple Mysore is also known as Lakshmi Narayana Temple and it is a place worth visiting. The temple possesses an archeological significance and it is only because of this reason that thousands of people visit this temple from all over the world. Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, the Maharaja of Mysore renovated the temple and the king’s statue is also found within the premise of the temple.

The Deity

The Lakshmi Narayana Temple is a dedication to Nambinarayana, a form of Lord Vishnu that is mainly worshiped as the deity in the temple and the statue is found in the main chamber of this temple. The deity holds a discus and a conch in its hand. There is a cell that is found just at the side of the deity which consists of the statue of Laxmi. Lord Vishnu’s statue is also found in this temple. There is a Mandapa that has been beautifully constructed behind the main chamber of the temple. This Mandapa was constructed in the 17th century under the supervision of Kantiva Narasaraja Wodeyar. The Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple Mysore is found to be sited very close to the personal museum of the king and within the complex o the Mysore palace.

No inscriptions have been found that prove the origin and the existence of the Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple Mysore. There is only one inscription that is dated 1499 and got hold of at Banni Mantapa where a donation to Lakshmiramana Swamy by Narasa Nayaka, the King of Vijayanagara, has been mentioned.

Mahadwara

The Mahadwara of the Lakshmi Narayana Temple was built by Raja Wodeyar. The entrance or the Mahadwara stands equipped with a Gopura that s quite tall and adorned with gold. Krishnaraja Wodeyar III later renovated the tower or the Gopura in 1851. The fact about the renovation has been proved through an inscription that was found in the temple. The inscription is dated 30th November, 1851. It was in 1599 that Raja Wodeyar erected his own statue in folded hands standing two feet tall within the complex of the temple. In 1799, the temple converted into the coronation setting of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III who was just five years of age. As no other suitable place for the ceremony was found in Mysore, the British opted to place the kid King onto Mysore’s throne at the Lakshmi Narayana Temple on 30th June, 1799. This ceremony was carried out after the demise of the great Muslim ruler, Tipu Sultan.

Timings at the Temple

The temple remains open for the general public and the tourists daily from 8 am to 9.30 am in the morning and 7 pm to 8 pm in the evening. All the prayers, archanas and offerings at the temple are carried out during this time and the devotees are also allowed within the temple strictly during these timings only.

Location and How to Reach There

The Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple Mysore is located at Sayyaji Road in Mysore, Karnataka which lies at a distance of about 10 kilometers from the airport sited at Mysore. There are both private and State transport buses that ply from the airport to the temple. People who plan to visit the temple by rail can also pay a comfortable visit. The Mysore railway station is the nearest railway station from the temple and there are auto rickshaws and even taxis available for the people. If one plans to travel by road, private cars can be hired for the purpose. The correct time to visit the temple should also be kept in mind. The best time to pay a visit to the Lakshmiramana Swamy Temple is during Dussehra when the celebrations are in full bloom.
