Keeping in to mind, about the welfare of the rural villages, and poor people who finds it difficult to purchase books or read in a privacy place, the Government of Mysore, made a plan to establish libraries all over the Mysore to make it easy for the readers to get all the necessary information they want from a Public Library. Thus, the department of libraries were organized between the years 1965 to 1966; and thereafter, these branches were expanded slowly all over the Mysore district.
As per the investigation, there are approximately 249 libraries throughout the Mysore City – there is one district central library, 6 Taluk Library Branches, 2 Pattana Panchayath Libraries, and 4 SC/STP Libraries, along with 236 Grama Panchayath Libraries. Below are few of the most popular libraries that are found in different areas of Mysore district.
Mysore Central Library
Central library is a public library which contains many types of general books, including details of library, and it is located at Kuvempunagar in Mysore district. The way to this library is very simple – when you reach Kuvempunagar, you will see Vijaya Bank Circle, from there you go up straight, you will be on Vishwamanava Double road, then take a left turn, there itself comes the Kuvempunagar Central Library, which is opened up every day, between 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; but, Monday will be Holiday here.
Span Library in Mysore
Span library is another library which is also located at Kuvempunagar itself, but at Panchamantra road. Here, books related to General Knowledge, Magazines, and Newspapers, etc. are available for the Public to read.
Jayanagar City Centre Library
Jayanagar City Centre Library is one of the famous libraries, where children to adults gather here to get all general and other reading books, a very silent place for readers. You can visit this library to read any types of books you wish on all the days between 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, and Sunday is a Holiday. You can find this library near to Government School at Jayanagar Cross, in Mysore.
Udayagiri City Centre Library
This Udayagiri City Centre Library is another attractive place, where people nearby Udayagiri drag to this library to read several interesting books, including daily newspapers and other magazines. You will get all details in one place. This library appears near to Quba Maszid; you have to go straight from this maszid and between 4th and 5th cross (left side), you can see this Udayagiri City Centre Library, which is opened up for Public daily during 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Sunday will be Holiday.
Kannada Vachana Bharathi
Kannada Vachana Bharathi is a library, where all sorts of Kannada books are available. These books are absolutely free to read, and people can come to this place to read, which will be opened at 9:30 AM - 9:00 PM regularly and Sunday will be the Holiday. This library is located at Tyagaraja Road, and is very Near to Hanuman Temple.
K R Mills Colony Library
This library has given facility for the readers to get all types of news papers to read, and is located near Government High School. Working Hours is usually 8:00 am - 7:00 PM regularly, and Monday will be Holiday.
Rotary Children’s Library
As the name itself indicates, it is a children’s library, which is located in Chamarajapuram. Children will surely enjoy reading all types of cartoon books, story books, adventure books, jokes, and everything that creates interest in them.
Manasa Circulating Library
Manasa Circulating Library is also one of the famous libraries established in Kuvempunagar area at Chitrabhanu Road, Near Shanti Sagar Complex. Library is occupied by many people to collect the books on rent, and the books availability timings is between 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM regularly.
Saraswathipuram Library
Saraswathipuram Library is the one where there are innumerable books for reading, and people who are interested in reading, can take advantage of this library and read any books of their choice. This library is found just opposite to JSS Hostel, near to R. K Dental Care.
Vagdevi Circulating Library
Readers can access all the benefits from this Vagdevi Circulating library, which consists of plenty of interesting books to read, and library opens in the morning10:30 AM and closes by night 9:00 PM. To find this library, you can move to Vinayaka or Ganesh Temple, 2nd Stage, where many people walk to the library.
