Mysore city in itself is known for many things. Here are some of the landmark places in Mysore for shopping:

The D Devraj Urs Road – For Garment Shopping

Known as the busiest and most famous commercial street of the city of Mysore, the D Devraj Urs Road is an ideal destination to shop for your garments. The street is over 2.5 kilometers long and has a wide range of shops. This is the one street which houses almost every big brand under its roof. You name the brand, and it is present. There are a large variety of stores catering to men, women and kids. Almost every big clothing and shoe brand ranging from Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Van Heusen, Peter England, Raymond, Pepe, Levi’s and many more have their authorized stores here. Mysore is also famous for its ethnic wear, predominantly its silk saris. The saree shops are also available on this street in large numbers, so much so that you are surely spoilt for choice. There is ample parking space here, but due to the crowd pouring out in large numbers almost on a daily basis; it tends to get a bit congested during evenings. The street is reached through the KR Circle where traffic is let in through a one way.

Sayyaji Rao Road – For Household Items

For cheap items of household use, this is your place to visit. There is a two Way Street on this lane with provisions made for traffic from both the sides. The street contains medical stores, grocery stores, footwear stores, gifts and cosmetic stores, which predominantly attracts ladies and other home makers. There streets are pretty congested and there is hardly any space for parking, but the products sold here are worth their cost and hence worthy of a visit.

Ashoka Road – For Jewelry

Bling bling bling! The glitter is already evident in the eyes of you ladies who are reading along with the “Why did you not write this first?” expression. But now for all you ladies, Ashoka Road is your place to be. The road is full of goldsmiths and jewelry stores. The innumerable ornaments stores cater to the needs of the tourists and local population alike. Gold, Silver, Artificial Jewelry, you name it and it can be purchased from Ashoka Road. The place is also famous for piercings and you can have your ears and nose pierced for INR 25 to INR 100. There is heavy traffic throughout the day, since it is a one way street.

BN Road – For Handicrafts

Apart from its silk sarees, another factor for which Mysore is famous for is its handicrafts and sandalwood items and these can be purchased from shops located on BN Road. You can buy items made of Sandalwood, Rosewood as well as other antique items from this place. BN Road also plays host to many landmark hotels and theaters of Mysore. The one way road here leads to the Central Bus Stand and hence is crowded with vehicular traffic for most part of the day.

Government Silk Factory

The Government silk factory, located on Jhansi Lakshmi Bai Road is stocked with authentic Mysore silk saris that have gorgeous zari borders. In addition to this, you can also see and buy crepe saris, embroidered saris, tissue saris, stoles, handkerchiefs, neckties and more. The silk factory, officially known as Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) Factory, charges no entry fees for tourists. However, taking pictures here is strictly prohibited.

Sandalwood Oil Factory

Shopping in Mysore is incomplete without stuffing your travel backpacks with sandalwood powder and oil. Situated on Ashokapuram off Mananthody Road, the factory is kept open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on all days except Sundays. Besides buying sandalwood items, you can also see how exactly incense sticks are made and sandalwood oil is extracted. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the factory premises.
