For any city to be covered from its length and breadth, public transport has always been the most preferred and convenient option. It is the public transport that has become a part of the daily lives of the common people and remained a constant for over decades. A good city or town is always defined by its public transport or modes of conveyance. A similar case beckons for the city of Mysore, which is also known as the cultural capital of the state of Karnataka. Mysore also has a fair share of good public transport with well defined modes like buses auto rickshaws and others.
One of the categories is known as the Pushpak, which is the multi compartment bus; Parisavahini, which is the Low emission old buses and the Marco polo low floored and semi – low floored buses. These fleets of buses are targeted at the common man of the city in order to ensure a safe, reliable and a cost – effective travel. The minimum fares of such buses begin from Rs. 5 for minimum distance and go upto Rs. 15 depending on the distance.
The other category of buses is represented by the Volvo. The Volvo is aimed at providing a comfortable travel to the upper classes and in order to attract them to use public transport instead of personal vehicles. The service is operated by deploying Air-conditioned, Euro-III conforming to kneeling mechanism, collapsible exit floor and room for wheel-chair. These services are hard to miss as they are red in color and operate only on select localities like Infosys Campus, L&T, Chamundi Hills, Nanjangud, Srirangapatna and Yelawala of Mysore. The minimum fare for these buses begins at Rs.10 for the shortest distance and go upto Rs. 30. Senior citizens travelling on either fleet can avail discounts upto 10% on display of proper documents regarding the same.
KSRTC has also launched a GIS application which helps citizens track down the current location of their buses, thereby creating awareness regarding any sort of delay as well as preventing overcrowding in buses as well as roads.
